Messaging & consent
Hearthstone sends enrolled family members one interview question a week by text message, so their stories are kept in their own voice.
About the messaging program
Hearthstone sends automated, application-generated messages only to enrolled users who have given documented consent. Typical frequency is one message per week plus at most one reminder. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to stop receiving messages, or HELP for help. Every message begins with “Hearthstone:” so users always know the sender.
How SMS consent is collected
Consent is collected at enrollment — verbally, in person or by phone — by the family’s administrator before any message is sent. Every user is asked, word for word:
“Would you like to receive one Hearthstone story question a week by text message at this number? It’s about one message per week plus at most one reminder. Message and data rates may apply, and you can reply STOP at any time to stop, or HELP for help.”
Only after the user agrees is their phone number enrolled. No number is ever messaged without this consent, and consent can be withdrawn at any time by replying STOP or by telling the administrator directly.
